MPH Program Early Entry

Undergraduate students selected for the early entry program may begin graduate coursework in their senior year. Any undergraduate student may apply, regardless of whether or not they have a health-related major or minor.

The MPH Early Entry program is accelerated; that is, up to twelve credit hours may be taken at the graduate level and double counted toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Students may leave the program with their baccalaureate degree, or they may complete the remaining coursework required to earn the MPH. Students pursuing the early entry option may be able to reduce the time needed to earn both degrees by one semester.

Applicants to the MPH Early Entry program must meet the following criteria:

  1. Have junior standing at the time of application;
  2. Have completed at least 75 hours by the proposed entry semester;
  3. Be enrolled as an undergraduate student at UNC Charlotte;
  4. Have at least a 3.50 overall GPA by the end of the fall semester prior to starting the MPH Early Entry program.

*NOTE: Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) students at UNC Charlotte cannot apply for the Community Health Practice (CHPR) concentration

Prior to applying for the MPH Early Entry program, the undergraduate student must meet with the MPH Program Director. Without this meeting, the application will be denied.

Accepted early-entry students have provisional graduate admission pending the award of the baccalaureate degree and must complete their undergraduate degree requirements by the time they have completed 15 hours of graduate work.
