Categories: News

Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke, Dean of the College of Health and Human Services, recently announced the appointment of Dr. Michael Thompson as the interim chair for a proposed new academic department in the college.  The new unit, provisionally named The Department of Health Management and Policy, will be established on July 1. This new academic unit will further the College’s transition to become an accredited School of Public Health.

Dr. Thompson is an Associate Professor and currently serves as Associate Chair and Director of the MHA Program for the Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS).  He began his career at UNC Charlotte in 2005 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in 2011. Since 2005, Dr. Thompson has served in a leadership role as the director of one or more graduate programs. He has been instrumental in working towards professional accreditation for our graduate degrees. He has served as Associate Chair of PHS since 2018, making him well qualified for this new role.

The College intends to conduct a national search (open also to internal candidates) for a permanent department chair during the 24-25 academic year.
