Public Health Sciences is hosting events during National Public Health Week (NPHW) from April 1st-7th, 2024. This year’s theme is “Protecting, Connecting and Thriving: We Are All Public Health.”

MONDAY, April 1st
Daily Theme: Civic Engagement

Come use your voice to make a difference! Write a local representative to advocate for something you believe in. Prompts, contact info and materials will be provided. Join us in the Student Union Lobby from 1:30 – 4:30 pm! 

Tuesday, April 2nd
Daily Theme: Healthy Neighborhoods

Ever thought about going plant-based? Join us April 2nd from 1-2pm in Belk Gym – Room 121 for a lunch and learn about “The Power of Plant Based Nutrition”. Learn about the benefits of a plant-based diet during a panel discussion with our campus dietician. Free plant-based snacks for the first 100 students!

Daily Theme: Climate Change

The climate is changing and so should we! Every April, UNC Charlotte celebrates Earth Month. Stop by our table during the Office of Sustainability’s Earth Day Festival at Belk Plaza from 10am-2pm. Learn more about how to reduce your carbon footprint as a student!

Thursday, April 4th
Daily Theme: New Tools and Innovations

Join us for a conversation with Dr. Bill Keck about Academic Health Department Partnerships: Evolving to Serve in the Public Health 3.0 Era on Thursday, April 4th at 2:30 pm in the Popp Martin Student Union Theater.

Dr. Keck is board-certified in Preventive Medicine/Public Health, and a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine, as well as Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Department of Behavioral and Community Health Sciences at the Northeast Ohio Medical University. He served for more than 27 years as the Director of Health for the City of Akron, and is past president of both the Ohio Public Health Association and the American Public Health Association.

The event brings together UNC Charlotte faculty and students, Mecklenburg County public health professionals.is free and open to the public. A reception hosted by the University’s chapter of Delta Omega will follow immediately afterward.

Daily Theme: Reproductive and Sexual Health

Join us for a pleasure based workshop hosted by Kay from SheOrgasms! This workshop is a mix of engaging activities to encourage self-expression and foster dialogue and will end with a panel session with the Center for Wellness Promotion and PLEASE. The event will be held April 5th from 4-6 pm in Fretwell 121. 

Saturday, April 6th
Daily Theme: Emergency Preparedness

Are you NinerReady? Disasters can be stressful for people of all ages, including college students. Are you equipped for unexpected events or emergencies on campus? 

Niner Alerts will help keep you informed and safe during an emergency.  Prepare yourself for emergencies through watching safety videos on seek shelter, lockdown and evacuation to learn more about how you can be prepared in the event a NinerAlert is issued!
