Concentration: Community Health Practice

Academic Background: Sociology degree with a concentration in Medical Sociology and a minor in Biology from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Public Health Interests: Community health outreach and education, health equity, healthcare literacy

Public Health Experience: Through various experiences working as a certified nursing assistant, emergency medical technician, and advanced certified pharmacy technician I have had a great deal of exposure to the field of public health while working with various communities. My most recent experiences include working in the pharmacy of a student health center attached to a large university as well as working in various retail pharmacies. As a pharmacy technician, I have had the pleasure of educating others on various health topics and worked to increase access and adherence to medications by helping customers apply for patient assistance programs. Additionally, I have had the opportunity to improve the health of my community by working with customers to find gaps in their immunization histories and administering recommended vaccinations to keep them safe and protected.

Why I chose the MPH program at UNC Charlotte: I chose the UNC Charlotte MPH program because I wanted to join a program that had strong connections to the community. What stood out to me about UNC Charlotte’s MPH program was the internship component that allows students to partner with a local organization and gain real world experience in an area of public health that the student is interested in. I plan to use this internship opportunity to not only work to improve the health of the local community, but also develop professionally and gain skills and experience that I will use once I graduate and start my career in the field of public health.
