Student Group Creates COVID-19 Informational Video
A group of UNC Charlotte health and human services students have joined with peers from the Charlotte AHEC Scholars program to create a COVID-19 PSA in response to the need for more information in communities of color regarding the virus and the myths surrounding it.
“It was part of #norush social media challenge, focusing on dispelling COVID related myths and presenting facts and stats related to COVID. We were targeting the black population and other vulnerable populations, as these populations are disproportionately affected,” said health administration master’s student Justine Lyon.
About AHEC Scholars
As part of the NC AHEC Scholars program, the Charlotte AHEC Scholars Program recruits, trains, and supports a diverse group of students enrolled in health professions programs across an 8 county region (Anson, Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Stanly, Union) in North Carolina. Together these students create an interdisciplinary team of health professionals devoted to the transformation of health care in North Carolina. AHEC seeks individuals who are committed to improving health and health care, devoted to community service, and interested in improving their own skills and in working with other professionals in team-based care.
With an emphasis on underrepresented minorities, rural, and first-generation college students, the Charlotte AHEC Scholars Program aims to improve the diversity and distribution of all health professions and support health systems transformation across the state.
