Dr. Ophelia Garmon Brown: Celebrating her life, mourning our loss

Dr. Opehlia Garmon Bown, Charlotte’s first female African-American Family Medicine resident and cofounder of the Charlotte Community Health Clinic, died on Wednesday.

We join the Charlotte community in celebrating a life exemplified by service and getting into that ‘good trouble’ while mourning the loss of a compassionate, fierce leader and champion of the less fortunate.

Dr. Garmon Brown was a tireless advocate and community partner, including being a friend and collaborator with the Department of Public Health Sciences.

Dr. Garmon Brown’s legacy is the lasting impact she has made on countless lives, a legacy that will live on in those she has inspired to the same calling.
